Get the Lowdown on How Often You *Really* Should Wash Your Hair
By Ash-le Tan
Dear Diary,
Finding the right hair washing schedule for your hair type is essential in maintaining healthy and beautiful locks. Different hair types require different levels of care and attention when it comes to washing.
Whether you have fine, normal or thick hair, I’ll deep dive into finding the perfect routine for your hair type to keep your hair looking and feeling its best. Here is what I’ve discovered.
If you have: Fine/flat hair
You should: Wash every 1-2 days
It’s time to pump up the volume with full, luscious locks that turn heads wherever you go. If you have fine or flat hair, you should aim to wash your hair every one to two days.
Fine hair tends to get weighed down easily by excess oils, so washing more frequently can help prevent your hair from looking limp and greasy. By keeping your scalp clean, you can help give your hair the volume and lift it needs to look its best.
Get ready to experience silky smooth, hydrated hair like never before. For those with normal/dry hair, I recommend washing every two to four days.
It's important to strike a balance between keeping your scalp clean and maintaining its natural oils for hydration. Using a hydrating shampoo and conditioner can help keep your hair healthy and moisturised without stripping it of its natural oils.
Say goodbye to frizz and hello to silky, smooth locks! If you have thick/frizzy hair, you can get away with washing your hair once a week. Thicker hair types tend to hide oils better, so you can go longer between washes without your hair looking greasy.
Over-washing can actually damage and dry out your hair, especially if you have curly hair, so limit the number of times you wash your hair to maintain its health and vibrancy.
A hair mask is a great way to provide extra hydration and nourishment to your hair, especially if you have thick or very dry hair.
You can swap out your regular conditioner for a hair mask every third wash to give your hair an extra boost of moisture and nutrients. Using a hair mask can help keep your hair looking shiny, smooth, and healthy in between washes.
